Naagin 6 actress Urvashi Dholakia opens up starting I am Enough; says, “I've seen a lot of people demeaning and humiliating me”

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Urvashi Dholakia first revealed the reason behind her starting the community. She also discussed about the issues she faced while being on social media and how she was trolled extensively for some of her posts. She said, “I've seen a lot of people demeaning me, be rude to me, humiliate me. Now I'm talking about people who I knew I do not know. And that is in the form of trolling. When I put something up on social media I have been trolled. Kuch bhi karlo trolling toh aapki honi hi hai (Do whatever you feel like trolling is definitely going to happen)! But fortunately, it's not bad.”

She continued, “Even then the question is why should I be exposed to that? In fact, there are certain people who are massively discouraged by this because not everybody has the capacity, the willpower or the strength to keep moving on. Virtually today's generation, that is, the younger generation can’t take something like this.”

While discussing about trolling, she also revealed about how it reflects some stereotypes that are often associated with women and how it showcases the way our gender is perceived. She added, “We have been schooled differently. I don’t claim to be a big feminist but I do believe that everyone should be treated equally. I believe in that. But at the same time, how many women are being encouraged to do that? People still say, ‘Don't cry like a girl?’ Why would you say that? I mean, it is a societal norm to basically compare everything to females since they are considered to be the weaker set.”

Furthermore, the actress also touched upon a sensitive subject. Although often the blame falls on the patriarchal society with many blaming the opposite gender for the prejudices against women, Urvashi clearly mentioned about how women too, sometimes, leave no opportunity to judge their own gender. Referring to how opinions are formed about a female’s fashion choices, the actress mentioned, “Women also decide what women should wear. That’s the funny thing. It is a norm we need to start breaking. And it's not just for a celebrity. Let's not limit it to one category. I think it’s because they are brainwashed in a certain way. They may not say that but it is true. They are brought up in a certain way where they are taught, ‘Sharam Laaj (modesty) and all that. Sharam, Laaj toh humare haaton mein hai na (Our modesty, our respect is in our hands). But we are not taught about it. We are not empowered about how to control that and how to have control on ourselves. How do we expect others to do?”

The actress concluded saying, “As far as what you wear, what you want is up to you. If anyone has a problem with it, it’s their problem, not mine. We accept this and we've got to accept who we are.”
