Manoj Bajpayee REACTS to losing National Award to Shah Rukh Khan: “It is a very loser conversation. It is in the past and…”
Three-time National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee delivered a powerful performance as an advocate in the 2023 OTT release Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. Many believed the film would earn him his fourth National Award. However, the Best Actor honour at the 71st National Film Awards was instead shared between Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan) and Vikrant Massey (12th Fail). While SRK fans celebrated his first-ever National Award, a section of cinephiles felt that Manoj was equally deserving.
Now, the actor has broken his silence on the matter.
In a conversation with India Today, Manoj said, “It is a useless conversation because it is gone. When it comes to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, yes, it is a very special film in my filmography and so was Joram. They are going to be on top of my filmography. But I don’t discuss these things because it is a very loser conversation. It is in the past and it should be left alone.”
He further reflected on the changing credibility of awards, particularly their tilt towards commercial cinema. Manoj Bajpayee stated, “It’s not just about a national award. It’s about all the awards that were revered. They should seriously think about how they are operating. Because it is not about my respect — I take care of my respect very cautiously when I’m choosing a film and I’m very responsible to the actor that I am. But each and every organisation has to think of themselves, that’s not my job. If somebody else is losing their respect, they should think about it.”
Meanwhile, the 71st National Film Awards were officially announced on August 1, 2025. The award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 4 PM at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
