Maniesh Paul on his full circle moment with David Dhawan in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, "I purchased tickets in black to watch his Judwaa"
At the trailer launch of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, actor Maniesh Paul spoke about working with director David Dhawan for the first time and recalled watching the filmmaker's 1997 comedy Judwaa in his younger days.
Paul shared an anecdote about David Dhawan personally calling him to the set during a shoot elsewhere. "He is one of the biggest directors in the history of Indian cinema. What's special about him is that he himself gives a call to the actors. I reached the location, and he got me done with three scenes altogether. I think everyone needs to learn that," Paul said.
Reflecting on the journey, he added, "Malviya Nagar se aaya hoon Delhi se. I have purchased tickets in black to watch David Dhawan's Judwaa. And today, I've had the opportunity to work in the film of the legendary director himself. Isse bada kuch ho hi nahi sakta!"
David Dhawan has hinted that Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai may be his final directorial venture. The film marks his fourth collaboration with his son Varun Dhawan.
Produced by Ramesh Taurani under Tips Films, with Gaurav Bose of Maximilian Films as co-producer, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, Mrunal Thakur, and Maniesh Paul, along with Jimmy Sheirgill, Mouni Roy, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, and Rakesh Bedi. Cinematography is by Ayananka Bose and editing by Ritesh Soni. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai releases in theatres on June 5, 2026.
