Jaya Bachchan expresses support for transgender individuals in Parliament: "Listen to their difficulties, pain, and struggles"

The outspoken and intrepid Jaya Bachchan never stops herself from speaking her mind. Now she has spoken in favour of transgender individuals, a community she feels to be ill represented in Parliament, while opposing to the Transgender Bill.

Said Jaya ji, “This community has been immensely blessed by Ram ji. He had said that on every special occasion, the presence of transgender persons would make the event auspicious. As per our customs, they visit homes during special occasions such as childbirth to offer blessings, which are considered auspicious.”

 

Jaya ji also strongly advocated for representation of the community in Parliament. “We need representation of this community in both Houses (Rajya and Lok Sabha). Make one among them a nominated member. Listen to their difficulties, pain, and struggles before bringing such a Bill to the House.”

 

Speaking of the transgender community being represented in our cinema, Jaya ji said, “There are so many beautiful films about them in the West. In Hindi cinema, I can only think of Mahesh Bhatt’s Tamanna and Kalpana Lajmi’s Darmiyaan.”
