EXCLUSIVE: Sanjay Mishra denies ‘nepotism’ in Bollywood; says, “It’s just a word”

By Bollywood Hungama News Network -

The issue of ‘nepotism’, ever since it was used by Kangana Ranaut, has become a term that people have often started associating with Bollywood. While many star kids are trolled for the same, many actors, in the past, have opened up about the struggles and challenges faced by the ones who don’t have a backing in the industry. On the other hand, many others have also maintained that nepotism is just a term and that Bollywood doesn’t differentiate between its stars. Among the latter is Sanjay Mishra, who in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama discussed the subject and asserted that the industry is open to all.

EXCLUSIVE: Sanjay Mishra denies ‘nepotism’ in Bollywood; says, “It’s just a word”

Sanjay Mishra, who is known for his comedy roles primarily, discussed his film journey with Bollywood Hungama. The actor, who has been a part of the industry for over two decades, touched upon the subject of nepotism and insisted that Bollywood doesn’t differentiate people and gives opportunities to all.

Denying that Bollywood discriminates between star kids and newbies, Sanjay Mishra said, "Hum sab mil jhul ke kaam karte hai pyaar se. 'Nepotism' hota kya hai? Yeh zabardasti humne ek shabd utha liya. Aap apne bachhe ko secure karke marna chahte hai, ya bas aise hi jaave? Meri bachhi kal ko kahe mujhko ki papa main acting karna chahti hoon toh kya main usko mana kardoon? Kyunki main nahi boss, ek hi actor hona tha? Har father chahta hai ki uska beta uske sanskaron ko aur saari cheezon ko uthake aage le jaye (We all work together happily. What is this ‘Nepotism’? This is a word that got picked up forcefully. Every parent wants to secure the life of their kids. Wouldn’t you want the same for your child? Tomorrow, if my daughter wants to become an actress, will I tell her no and that there’s space only for one actor? Every father wants their child to follow his footsteps take forward the legacy of not just values but also these things).”

He further quizzed about how Bollywood would have panned out if Raj Kapoor (son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor) was not allowed to work in the industry. Sanjay continued, “Raj Kapoor agar na hote toh kya hota? Unhone bahut kuch diya hai film industry. Toh yeh sab chochle hai (What would have happened if Raj Kapoor was not in the industry. He has contributed so much to the film industry. So, all of these are just things meant to be ignored).”

He concluded by adding, “Humare yahan upar wahi utha hai jisko kaam aata hai. Aise bahut saare udaharan hai jo chup ho gaye, jiske paas naam sab tha phir bhi... aur aise bhi log hain jo background bhi nahi tha, kuch nahi tha aur upar uth khade hue. Yeh sab ek naam hai. Main bilkul nahi manta (The only people here who rise to fame are the ones who work. There are many examples of star kids who failed to make it despite having the name and resources, and many who managed to become superstars with no godfather. All of these are just words. I don’t believe in it at all).”

On the work front, Sanjay Mishra is currently gearing up for Gutlee Ladoo, which is directed by Ishrat R Khan and is slated to release on October 13.
