EXCLUSIVE: KK Raina on Ek Ruka Hua Faisla remake, “No harm in it, but…”

The remake of Basu Chatterjee’s classic Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) was announced in November last year and it was also said that the film will go on floors the following month. It is helmed by Dr Darshan Ashwin Trivedi and stars Atul Kulkarni, Suvinder Vikki, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Neeraj Kabi, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Kani Kusruti, Hemant Kher, Samvedna Suwalkar, Luke Kenny and Manu Rishi Chaddha.

The 1986 movie boasted of talented artistes like KK Raina, Pankaj Kapur, Annu Kapoor, MK Raina, Deepak Qazir, among others. The film, which itself was a remake of the Hollywood classic 12 Angry Men (1957), revolved around 12 jury members deciding the fate of a youngster accused of murder.

 

KK Raina, who played the most pivotal role in the 1986 movie, shared his take on the news of its remake in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama. “Remake karne mein koi harz nahin hai, usme koi baat nahin hai,” he said. “A few months ago some actors had done a stage version of Ek Ruka Hua Faisla. They had invited me to see the performance. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend. Also, just like we made Ek Ruka Hua Faisla from 12 Angry Men, there was an English theatre group that also recreated it. In our film, there were 12 angry men but they had also included a few angry women. So, everyone keeps doing experiments in their own way.”

 

Raina, however, believes that those who are remaking classics should make sure of one thing. “If someone wants to recreate a classic and make it again, there is nothing wrong in it,” he said. “But the important thing is to see whether they are able to do justice with the soul of the story. It’s not that only we could do it and others can’t. Others can also do. Maybe they can even do better than us. There is no harm in making it again. It’s always welcome.”
