EXCLUSIVE: Dheeraj Dhoopar opens up about his rapport with Manmeet aka Surbhi Chandna in Sherdil Shergill; says, “She understands me as a person and I understand her”

Taking a break from the usual saas-bahu drama, the beloved on-screen son-husband Dheeraj Dhoopar decided to take up a role, distinct from the kind of shows as he opted for Sherdil Shergill. The show features him as the carefree, fun, and a tad bit of irresponsible intern Raj, who works under the strong-headed, ambitious Manmeet aka Surbhi Chandna, who is also a mother of a toddler. The show’s promo garnered ample attention for its bold and twisty storyline and Dheeraj can’t be happier to have signed on such an interesting project. “The show is actually something which is very different from the content, which has been produced off late on Indian television,” maintained the Kundali Bhagya actor in this exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama.

Dheeraj Dhoopar is not just thrilled for his fifth association with Colors but also for being a part of such a different show. He opened up about the show in this exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama saying, “This is a very different kind of a setup different kinds of storyline, different kinds of characteristics of the characters. So you know, whatever feedback I am getting whatever reviews I'm getting from the media and from the fans, they've been great.”

 

He went on to add, “I'll say it’s a very new age kind of a show. From the storyline to even the execution of the whole show is very, very big. I haven't seen something like this on Indian television earlier. When Mr. Saurabh Tewari narrated me the story, I got super excited and I said I'm in for the show immediately. If you see the show, my character Raj is very different from other male lead characters of Indian television. He's more relatable anda charming guy. I wouldn’t say he's not heroic but he's more heroic in his own sense. But he is very different from other male heroes we have on different daily soaps.”

 

The actor will also return with his Naagin 5 co-star Surbhi Chandna in Sherdil Shergill. When fans got a glimpse of the duo’s chemistry on the small screen, they couldn’t stop raving about it. Although Dheeraj played Cheel from a different generation, fans got a brief glimpse of the two of them together and couldn’t stop gushing about it. Dheeraj credits all their chemistry to the great friendship he shares with the Ishqbaaz actress. “We've been great friends since the time we started doing Naagin 5 together. And people did appreciate our chemistry a lot on the show and we got great reviews about it also. I think it is that friendship that shows on screen. When you're so comfortable with the person off-screen in real life, I think that's what reflects on screen.”

 

He further shared, “We are not too different from each other in real life. She understands me as a person, vice versa. We are not at all like poles apart, like what’s featured on the show. We have similar interests, likings and even similar perspectives towards most of the things. We do have differences but it is not as much as it’s shown on the show.”

 

Interestingly, Sherdil Shergill features Surbhi Chandna as a mother. However, the strong-headed mother is a single mom who is raising her son alone. On the other hand, in real life, Dheeraj has become a father to a baby boy not very long ago. We wonder if we can see some father-son bonding onscreen and let us tell you that Dheeraj is not really against the idea. Although the actor has played an onscreen father in the past, a real life touch will probably add some more twist to the role.

 

Speaking about onscreen fatherhood in Sherdil Shergill, Dheeraj added, “Not right now I suppose. Right now, things are not looking that way between Manmeet and Raj. However, I wouldn’t know how the story would progress. But I am not saying a no because why not? I mean I am a father in real so why not on screen? I don’t mind. I have already played a father in the past in Sasural Simar Ka 2 and for two-three months I also played a father in Kundali Bhagya.”

 

Dheeraj Dhoopar was also seen in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 but had to quit the show owing to his injury. The actor also expressed his disappointment over it saying, “I was injured on the sets and the injury became really big. I was in too much pain and I wasn’t getting time to recover.” In the same breath, he also added that he isn’t opposed to the idea of returning to the celebrity dance reality show. “I am recovered pretty much now. If they approach me and all is well, then why not,” he concluded.
