Ek Triangular Si Love Story

 

Next few weeks may well create a record for Bollywood as far as triangular love stories are concerned. That's because close to half a dozen movies would be released between August and September which would be three way love stories. Something like that has never happened before in the history of Bollywood and it could well be time for makers to send their entries for the record books. These films are Not A Love Story, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Hum Tum Shabana and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.

"This is unprecedented", says a Bollywood historian, "I have seldom seen movies with such setting hitting the screen in a back to back fashion. Though I am sure treatment of each of these films would be different that would bring in added variety for the cine-goers, the very fact that there are two actors wooing another is something that proves once again that formula films are back."

 

He could well be right here at least from genre perspective. After all each of the films has been treated differently, what with Ram Gopal Varma's Not A Love Story being a murder drama, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan a family film, Hum Tum Shabana a romantic comedy and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster being a quirky drama thriller.

 

"Each of these films is looking like an interesting preposition though", says a trade guru, "Not A Love Story is told from Mahie's perspective who aids one lover (Deepak Dobriyal) in the killing of another (Ajay Gehi).

 

And then there are some films that reveal everything at the title stage itself. "Exactly", he continued, "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan hasn't hidden anything while conveying how Imran Khan falls in love with the fiancée (Katrina Kaif) of his brother (Ali Zafar). Ditto for Hum Tum Shabana where both Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade are wooing Minissha as well as Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster which is about a royal couple (Jimmy Sheirgill, Mahie Gill) and an unsuspecting intruder (Randeep Hooda)."

 

With such a record being created, it is indeed the case of Bollywood shining with audience pretty much enjoying the treat of seeing multiple love stories unfold on screen.

 

"Wait, there is more", an industry insider adds, "Though not much is known about Soundtrack, it too can be expected to have a three way romance with Rajeev Khandelwal, Soha Ali Khan and Mrinalini Sharma forming the triangle. Also, if at all Tell Me O Khhuda releases in September, it would be interesting to know whether Arjan Bajwa and Chandan Roy Sanyal are just playing Esha Deol's friends or are in fact carrying a soft corner for her in their hearts. Interestingly, there are new genres being explored here as well. While Soundtrack is a musical, Tell Me O Khhuda is a road movie."

 

Now that's some record indeed in the making here!
