In a heartfelt gesture, Dr. Kafeel Khan, a name synonymous with the tragic hospital deaths in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, has penned a heartfelt note to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his latest movie, Jawan. Dr. Khan saw poignant parallels between the film's narrative and the heart-wrenching Gorakhpur deaths that led to his termination from service. In a tweet, he shared his sentiments along with the contents of the letter, which he sent to Shah Rukh Khan's iconic Bandra residence, Mannat.

Dr. Kafeel Khan expressed, “felt compelled to convey my deep appreciation for your extraordinary commitment to using cinema as a means to address critical socio-political issues.” Despite facing numerous obstacles in delivering his letter, Dr. Khan's gratitude shines through. He praised Shah Rukh Khan as a “beacon of hope.”

 

The pediatrician's life took a tumultuous turn when he was suspended, arrested, and jailed following the tragic incident in Gorakhpur, where 63 children lost their lives due to a shortage of oxygen supply in 2017. Dr. Khan asserted that he was cleared of major charges, although the government had disputed these claims.

 

The movie Jawan resonated deeply with Dr. Kafeel Khan due to its poignant portrayal of the Gorakhpur Encephalitis incident, which left an indelible mark on his heart. He acknowledged that while the film is a work of fiction, it struck a personal chord with him.

 

Dr. Khan specifically highlighted the character of Dr. Eeram Khan, portrayed by actor Sanya Malhotra, as encapsulating the challenges he faced during the tragedy. In one sub-plot of Jawan, Dr. Eeram Khan struggles to secure oxygen supply at a government hospital where children are admitted with high fevers. Tragically, the children later pass away, and the doctor is held responsible and incarcerated.
