Diljit Dosanjh reveals he forced himself to find his “inner pain” after watching Rockstar: “There is no pain in my life”

Actor-musician Diljit Dosanjh, known for his energetic performances, recently discussed his artistic approach in an interview with Film Companion. Diljit, who will soon be seen in Imtiaz Ali's upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila, revealed a surprising source of inspiration for his acting: the heartbreak depicted in Imtiaz Ali's earlier film Rockstar.

Diljit, a self-described artist who has "been working hard from the start," admitted to wondering if his lack of personal struggles hindered his artistic depth. He specifically mentioned the character portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar, whose artistic journey is fueled by heartbreak.

 

The popular Punjabi singer-actor stated, "There is no pain in my life. I am an artist. First I tried (finding pain) after watching Rockstar. I was very inspired by Rockstar, it is a great film and Ranbir also did a great job. After watching the film, I tried to find my inner pain. But I did not find any. Then I was like, let’s continue without pain."

 

Interestingly, Imtiaz Ali, the director of both Rockstar and Amar Singh Chamkila, echoed Diljit’s sentiment. Ali suggested that a broken heart is not a prerequisite for great art. He stated, "I don’t see that connection in the same way.”

 

He explained, “In fact, the reason I made the film was because, since childhood, I also wondered how I could become a big person. But I used to feel the same. I was engaged with this thought, till I made the film (Rockstar). Then I realised that it is not that straightforward that if heart breaks something great will happen.”

 

Speaking of their upcoming film, Amar Singh Chamkila, it also stars Parineeti Chopra in the lead. The film will directly be released on Netflix on April 12.
