BREAKING: Exhibitors expect HUGE turnout for Jawan on National Cinema Day; shows of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer increased; Mission Raniganj, Fukrey 3, The Exorcist: Believer to also benefit

Last year, the National Cinema Day was celebrated in India on September 23. As part of the celebrations, tickets were sold for just Rs. 75, leading to house-full shows for nearly every film across the country. This year, National Cinema Day will be celebrated on October 13 and tickets will be sold for Rs. 99. As expected, the shows are fast filling already.

BREAKING: Exhibitors expect HUGE turnout for Jawan on National Cinema Day; shows of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer increased; Mission Raniganj, Fukrey 3, The Exorcist: Believer to also benefit

Surprisingly, exhibitors are batting on Jawan the most. An exhibition source told Bollywood Hungama, “The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer is consistently doing well and during offers, it tends to get more footfalls. Hence, many theatres have decided to increase its shows from October 13. And it seems like an apt decision since Jawan’s shows are fast filling.”

This week, Jawan is playing 5 shows a day at PVR Oberoi Mall, Goregaon East. From Friday, it’ll play in 6 shows, including 5 in the big-sized P[X]L screens. Inox R City Mall, Ghatkopar, too, has increased the number of shows of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer from 6 to 7. PVR Lower Parel, which was playing 2 shows this week, will screen 3 shows of Jawan from October 13, 2 of them in the IMAX screen. Inox Megaplex, Malad, too, will show 2 shows of Jawan in IMAX and the remaining 5 in normal screens.

As for Gaiety-Galaxy, Jawan is being played in Galaxy while Akshay Kumar-starrer Mission Raniganj is being shown in Gaiety. A vice-versa situation will take place on October 13. Jawan will be played in the 1000-seater Gaiety while Mission Raniganj in Galaxy, which has around 800 seats.

An industry insider said, “Jawan has collected more than Rs. 550 crores. We all thought it had exhausted its run. But the demand continues. This is unbelievable.”

Mission Raniganj, too, will benefit. The Akshay Kumar starrer didn’t perform well at the box office, but the National Cinema Day will help pump up the collections to some extent. As of now, the evening and night shows have got a superb response. In certain multiplexes like PVR Lower Parel, Inox Raghuleela Mall Vashi, Mukta A2 Cinemas Lalbaug etc, less than 30 tickets are available for night shows. The 9:30 pm show of Metro Inox Cinemas in South Mumbai has less than 10 tickets available.

Then, Fukrey 3 and The Exorcist: Believer are also films that have managed to sell a huge number of tickets. Fukrey 3 is a hit while The Exorcist: Believer had a poor run at the box office. However, thanks to the Rs. 99 offer, it’ll have a decent second Friday.

3 films are up for release on October 13 – Taapsee Pannu’s road trip production Dhak Dhak, the Hollywood comic drama Dumb Money and the animated flick Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. The bookings for these movies, however, are not up to the mark. The exhibition source, however, assured, “These films, too, will get footfalls, going by the last year's experience. Moreover, their shows are still being added. Last week’s Thank You For Coming will also put up good numbers.”

The source also remarked, “The collections are expected to nosedive on October 14 due to the India vs Pakistan match. But thanks to the offer, at least our Friday will be a solid one.”

Meanwhile, in an interesting development, Cinepolis in Viviana Mall, Thane will play 6:00 am shows of not just Mission Raniganj, Jawan, Fukrey 3 and The Exorcist: Believer but also old titles like Dream Girl 2, Gadar 2 and Oppenheimer. Even The Vaccine War, which will be in its third week on October 13 and has flopped, will be played at 6:00 am.

Another development is all Mukta A2 cinemas will price tickets for Rs. 90 instead of Rs. 90. Lastly, Vishek Chauhan of Roopbani theatre in Purnea, Bihar is celebrating National Cinema Week, from October 13 to October 18. Tickets will be sold for just Rs. 75 till Wednesday.
