Bhay actor Danish Sood on his fears of the paranormal, “I think I’ve just learned to hide it better now”

Actor and musician Danish Sood stepped into one of his most challenging roles with Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, a paranormal thriller based on real-life events and currently streaming on Amazon MX Player. The series traces the investigations of the Indian Paranormal Society (IPS) and its founder, Gaurav Tiwari, whose unexplained death continues to spark discussion among believers and sceptics.

In the series, Danish portrayed Sid (Siddharth Bantwal), a real individual whose personal experiences with the paranormal became the starting point of his journey into the unknown. Speaking about the role, Danish said, “Sid wasn’t just a character. He was a real person who actually lived through these experiences. Every scene was rooted in something that truly happened, and that responsibility changed how I approached the role.”

 

Before joining the IPS, Sid experienced a haunting involving a friendly spirit named Bacchua, an encounter that shifted his perspective from fear to curiosity. Danish explained that this transformation drew him to the character. “What interested me was Sid’s journey—from someone who was haunted to someone who went on to help others facing similar experiences. It was rare to portray a person whose trauma eventually became his purpose,” he shared.

 

As the story progressed, Sid emerged as an important presence within the IPS, especially following Gaurav Tiwari’s death. He stepped into a supporting role that helped address the emotional and investigative gap left behind by the late paranormal researcher.

 

Unlike conventional horror shows, Bhay relies less on visual shock and more on atmosphere. Danish noted, “What made Bhay different was its honesty. It didn’t depend on showing ghosts repeatedly. Instead, it focused on creating a sense of presence, which was far more unsettling.”

 

The genre also holds personal significance for the actor. Reflecting on his early fears, Danish admitted, “I grew up terrified of paranormal shows. I think I’ve just learned to hide it better now. Working on Bhay reminded me that fear and curiosity often go together.”

 

Bhay stars Karan Tacker as Gaurav Tiwari, alongside Kalki Koechlin, Danish Sood, and Saloni Batra. The series blends elements of horror and thriller with real-life accounts, offering viewers a grounded look at paranormal investigations.
