Arshad Warsi reveals how a college fest led him to Maria Goretti: “She fell in love with me, I didn’t”

Arshad Warsi, who has been in the spotlight lately with The Ba***ds Of Bollywood, Bhagwat Chapter One – Raakshas and Jolly LLB 3, recently appeared on Raj Shamani’s podcast. A segment from the episode has resurfaced, in which the actor looks back at the first time he met his now-wife, Maria Goretti, during a college competition.

Sharing the story, Arshad said he had been invited to judge the Malhar college fest when a friend, actor Ravi Behl, mentioned “a girl from St. Andrew’s with a very cute smile.” Arshad added, “I spotted her. I said pretty girl yaar. She was just a background dancer then. Then she became the lead dancer. She started helping me out with things, and she fell in love with me. I didn’t.”

 

According to him, friends kept telling him Maria liked him, but he wasn’t convinced. “I was stressed. I asked her in style, ‘Do you like me?’ She said no.”

 

Their equation changed during a show in Dubai. Arshad recalled the moment with a laugh: “I got a good Catholic girl to drink beer, and her real feelings came out. She said, ‘I love you.’ I told her she should’ve said it earlier.”

 

 

 

What followed was quick but certain. “We started going out and in a week we organically got married. There wasn’t one thing I could see that went against her. She was cute, adorable, and good-looking. Her nature was beautiful. Her morals, everything was intact.”

 

Arshad and Maria married on February 14, 1999, and marked their 25th anniversary in 2024. Ahead of the milestone, they formally registered their marriage on January 23, 2024.

 

On the work front, Arshad has had a busy run with consecutive releases. He will next be seen in Mastiii 4. He has also been shooting in Poland for King, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
