Anubhav Sinha reacts to Ra.One being called a film ‘ahead of its times’; says, “I am a big believer of how long a film lives determines its legacy”

Readers would be aware that 2011 sci-fi drama Ra.One starring Shah Rukh Khan, Arjun Rampal, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, failed to impress the masses. The film was set against the backdrop of gaming and fantasy action drama featured SRK in a never-seen-before avatar of a game character. The film, although failed to do wonders at the box office, have been receiving some rave ratings online and recently director of the film Anubhav Sinha opened up about it.

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha commented on the reactions he has been receiving from people where some of them have addressed Ra.One as a film ‘ahead of its times’. Speaking to DNA, Anubhav Sinha said, “It’s not for me to say this because I would always find criticism harsher. But if someone not involved with the film says it was harsh, I would obviously latch on to that.” He further revealed how the film has been winning hearts in the current generation, a decade after its release. “I am a big believer of how long a film lives determines its legacy. The fact that a film that was so harshly judged and criticized 12 years back lives on online with people calling it ahead of its time speaks volumes. Then, that is the film’s success, and it gives me a lot of happiness,” he added.

 

Ra.One featured Arjun Rampal as the supervillain in a game invented by scientist Shekhar Subramaniam with his own face as the superhero G. One. The film featured Armaan Verma as Prateek whereas Kareena Kapoor Khan essayed the role of Shekhar’s wife and Prateek’s mother. Although the film managed to rake in about Rs. 100 crores at the box office, it was considered an average success owing to its extensive budget on postproduction and special effects.
