Ajay Devgn on why he took so long for OTT debut with Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness: “When you are offered right subject, everyone’s ready to do it”

Ajay Devgn is making his long-awaited digital debut with the Indian adaptation of the British series, Luther. Helmed by ace director Rajesh Mapuskar, this psychological crime drama Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness will see Ajay Devgn donning the avatar of a cop. Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios India, the series has been shot at the most iconic locales of Mumbai. It also features a stellar cast including Raashi Khanna, Esha Deol, Atul Kulkarni, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tarun Gahlot, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Satyadeep Misra in pivotal roles.

At the press conference on Monday in Mumbai, when asked if the pandemic is the reason he took so long to make his OTT debut, considering many of his peers have already done so, Ajay Devgn said, “No, it’s not the pandemic. We were always open to OTT shows. This also started before the pandemic in 2018. Everyone’s open to OTT. It’s just that you wait for the right subject. When you are offered that, everyone’s ready to do it.”

 

"My job is to entertain. It doesn't matter where. I love the big screen and love to watch OTT as well in my personal time. After the pandemic, it has multiplied much more. It's great that you're in theatres and even on OTT. You have so much scope and so many new things to do," he added.

 

The six-episode Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness series is an Indian rendition of the globally successful British series, Luther. The series has a dark and complex narrative that is an idiosyncratic race-against-the-clock thriller delving into the psyche of highly-intelligent criminals and the detective who hunts them.

 

Rudra-The Edge of Darkness will be available exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar from 4th March 2022 in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali.
