After staying away from films for nearly nine years, Neetu made her acting comeback with JugJugg Jeeyo, produced by Dharma Productions. The film was released after Rishi Kapoor died in 2020 and marked a major turning point in her personal and professional life.

Reflecting on the period, Neetu admitted that she faced severe emotional distress after losing her husband. She shared, “I just started working. He passed away, and I did JugJugg Jeeyo. I just went to work to get the confidence back. I was in such a bad state, and it was so hurting when people used to say ke ‘ohh he passed away, and she jumped into work’. That was horrible. But they don’t know why I did it.”

The actress further revealed that the grief deeply affected her health and sleep cycle. “When he passed away, I couldn’t sleep for a month or two, and I got into drinking. I used to start drinking, and then I could not sleep without drinking,” she said.

Neetu also spoke about seeking medical help during that difficult phase. According to the actress, she reached out to her doctor after realising she was struggling emotionally and physically. She revealed that a gynaecologist used to visit her home late at night to administer injections that would help her sleep. This continued for nearly 10 days before she finally began to feel stable again.

Sharing how work became a form of healing, Neetu credited filmmaker Karan Johar for encouraging her to step out and rebuild her confidence. “But I needed to get out. I spoke to Karan, and he asked me to get back to work,” she said.

Over the years, Neetu Kapoor has often spoken fondly about her relationship with Rishi Kapoor, who passed away after a long battle with leukemia.
