AB de Villiers retracts statement on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s second child; says, “No one knows what's happening there”

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers stirred up speculation about Indian cricket star Virat Kohli's potential absence from the ongoing Test series against England by suggesting that Kohli and his wife, Anushka Sharma, might be expecting their second child. Kohli had withdrawn from the India squad for the first two Tests against England, citing personal reasons, sparking uncertainties about his return for the remaining matches.

In a YouTube live session, de Villiers shared insights about his conversation with Kohli, indicating that Kohli was prioritizing family time during his absence. However, he later clarified that he had made an error in suggesting that Kohli and Anushka were expecting a second child, acknowledging that the information was false.

 

De Villiers emphasized the importance of family and supported Kohli's decision to focus on personal matters. He expressed his wishes for Kohli's well-being and hoped for his swift return to cricket after addressing any familial concerns.

 

De Villiers told Dainik Bhaskar, “Family comes first and then Cricket. I had made a big mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. I think whatever's best for Virat's family comes first. No one knows what's happening there, all I can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can comeback stronger, better and fresh from this.”

 

Kohli's absence from the Indian team has fuelled speculation about his availability for the upcoming Tests against England. While the Indian cricket board has not confirmed Kohli's return, reports suggest that he might miss not only the third Test in Rajkot, beginning on February 15, but also the fourth Test.

 

On the film front, Anushka Sharma is gearing up for the release of Chakda Xpress. The film will see her play the lead role of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. It will release on Netflix. Backed by her brother Karnesh Sharma's production house Clean Slate Filmz, the film also stars Triptii Dimri, Swastika Mukherjee and Babil Khan.
