11 Years of Gangs Of Wasseypur: Richa Chadha calls Anurag Kashyap directorial “a risk that paid off”; pens emotional note

On June 22, 2023, the iconic Indian film Gangs of Wasseypur celebrated its 11th anniversary, marking over a decade since its release. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the crime drama captivated audiences with its gritty storytelling, memorable characters, and intense performances. Set in the coal mafia-ridden town of Wasseypur, the film depicted a saga of revenge, power struggles, and familial conflicts spanning multiple generations. Celebrating the milestone, Richa Chadha dedicated a post to the film.

Instagramming the post, Richa wrote, “Happy #11yearsofgangsofwasseypur ! This film is cult legit and I am proud that this risk paid off, cuz I have a career!” The critically acclaimed actress further added, “Whenever I feel low I think of the time that Roger Ebert decided my work was noteworthy and I become ok really quick. Thanks for loving this film! / Always tell haters, underestimators, alligators that talent is immune to erasure.”

 

Meanwhile, the message on her screen read, “For the longest time I believed I was only cast as Nagma Hatun because perhaps someone else turned it down. Well, my good luck because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Feisty, angry woman who was wronged but was not a victim. It was great to work with such a stellar cast. It is no surprise that the film went on to become a cult class. For me, it was a risky part playing someone so much older but it is definitely a risk that paid off. I am still here doing cool things.
