Business slumps

By Bollywood Hungama -

Silver and golden jubilees are a thing of the past. In today's times, most films don't last in theatres beyond one week. A 3 IDIOTS or a MY NAME IS KHAN is a rarity in today's times, but the outcome of most films is evident on Day 1 itself.

Business slumps

Films are failing and failing badly. In several cases, the management of cineplexes have had to cancel the shows due to no audience. Yet, one sees a string of new films hitting the marquee week after week. 4-5-6-7 films a week have become a norm.

What puzzles me is the tearing hurry most producers have, when it comes to releasing their films. What point does it serve to have so many films clashing on the same date? Just glance at the 'Release Date' section of Bollywood Hungama and you'd realize that several producers are indulging in professional harakiri.

When will we ever learn from our mistakes? Never, I guess!

TEEN PATTI has emerged a major setback. The film opened to a disastrous response and didn't show any spurt in business during the weekend or on weekdays. On the other hand, KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK attracted its target audience [the youth] at metros specifically, but the word of mouth was mixed, unlike the makers' earlier outing ROCK ON!!, which showed a rapid jump with each passing show.

The sole factor that goes in favour of KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK is its moderate costing and the producers should recover the investment via theatrical and non-theatrical avenues [Satellite, Home Video, Music Rights]. But TEEN PATTI is an expensive film and the losses would be huge.

Let's hope the tide changes for better in the coming days. Fingers crossed!
