Was Madhur Bhandarkar too expensive for Priyanka Chopra?

Sometime back the news that Priyanka Chopra would be turning producer captured headlines. In fact the actress was set to co-produce her first feature film, Madamji in collaboration with an international production house. For the same it was also reported that Madhur Bhandarkar best known for his films like Chandini Bar, Page 3, Fashion and Heroine had been roped in to helm the project. However it seems that things have gone awry with Madhur being dropped from the project, for reasons best known to the producers.

 

However divulging the reason behind Madhur's exit from the project a source says, "Madhur asked for a whopping Rs. 5 crores as his fees to direct the film. Such an amount, especially after the Heroine debacle and the fact that he is making Calendar Girls which is not what we call an A-list movie didn't make sense. The studio that will be collaborating with PC for the film, conveyed the same message to the actress, who despite sharing a warm equation with Madhur couldn't argue with their perspective as she is a logical producer and understands budgets and spends."

Further talking about PC's and the production house collaboration the source adds, "Though the studio is still excited about working on the film and more so with PC, thanks to her benchmark performance in Mary Kom, they will be looking for another director to helm the project."

 

Madamji that will be co-produced by Priyanka's Purple Pebble Pictures is a woman-oriented film revolving around the life of an item girl who climbs up the ladder of success as she traces her journey towards becoming a top notch politician. The film is slated to go on floor in October
