After GANGAAJAL, Prakash Jha is attempting yet another realistic fare, titled APAHARAN. Starring Ajay Devgan and Nana Patekar in pivotal roles, the film will roll on July 11. Ajay and Nana were earlier cast in Ramgopal Varma's immensely successful BHOOT.
"I am looking at the industry of kidnapping in APAHARAN," Jha informs me, "I have incorporated several real-life incidents in the film." The interesting part is that both Ajay and Nana enact negative roles in this film, while Ajay's father in the film, Dr. Mohan Agashe, is the positive character.
Jha is yet to finalize the leading lady. Wasn't he contemplating signing Lara Dutta at a point of time? "Yes, I was," he admits, "But she has committed her dates to a Jackie Chan project as well as Karan Johar's next film [to be directed by Soham Shah]."
In any case, there isn't much scope for a heroine in APAHARAN. "She's got a minimal role," he adds. To be shot in Mumbai, Pune and Satara, APAHARAN will be co-produced by Manmohan Shetty's Entertainment One.
APAHARAN is scheduled for release in January 2005.
