Bobby Deol recently revisited a light-hearted memory from the sets of the 1997 thriller Gupt: The Hidden Truth. During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor spoke about a scene with co-star Manisha Koirala that he found difficult to shoot for an unexpected reason. The episode featured discussions about Bobby’s reputation as a prankster during the early years of his career. He was also asked about stories suggesting that he often pulled jokes on his female co-stars.
Recalling an incident from the sets of Gupt, Bobby shared how Manisha's fondness for a popular street snack created a challenge during the filming of a close scene. “Yes, I remember. It was cold when we were shooting and there was someone selling chana zor garam, and she was eating it with great pleasure,” Bobby said.
The actor explained that an intimate sequence was scheduled soon after. According to him, the scene required Manisha’s character to bite his chin during a song sequence. “There was a whole scene pending, where she had to bite on my chin during the song. I was unable to give any expressions due to the smell of onions from her mouth,” he recalled.
Bobby then narrated how he tried to get back at his co-star through a prank. He remembered convincing another actor in the film to eat onions before a scene involving Manisha. “How do I take revenge on her? There was a scene happening inside the college, where her brother or someone comes to beat me. He was a new actor, so I told him to eat onions to improve his acting,” Bobby said.
The actor admitted that the plan did not work as expected. “I made him eat so many onions, but when he gave the shot, Manisha did not behave any different. You are immature at that age,” he added with a laugh.
Released in 1997, Gupt: The Hidden Truth remains one of Bollywood’s most popular suspense thrillers. Directed by Rajiv Rai, the film starred Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala in lead roles.
On the professional front, Bobby is gearing up for the release of Bandar. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film marks the first collaboration between the actor and the filmmaker. Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on June 5, 2026.
