Vicky Kaushal has addressed the criticism he faced earlier this year after a video from a wedding event sparked debate on social media. The actor, who was called out by some users for remarks he made about married life, has now reflected on the responsibilities that come with being a public figure and said that criticism can sometimes offer valuable lessons.
The controversy began in March when a video from a wedding function surfaced online. In the clip, Vicky was seen interacting with the groom’s family and joking about how the enthusiasm of married men tends to decline over the years. While many viewers treated the moment as light-hearted banter, others criticised the actor, calling the comments stereotypical and insensitive. The discussion quickly gained traction online, with some social media users expressing disappointment and questioning his image as a progressive public figure.
Now, in an interview with The Nod Magazine, Vicky has shared his perspective on dealing with criticism and public scrutiny. “There is no way that just because you’re a public figure, you need to be perfect. Sometimes we do deserve the brickbats, and maybe the learning there for me is that, as much as people are giving me love, it also comes with a certain sense of responsibility,” he said.
The actor acknowledged that fame inevitably brings both admiration and criticism. According to him, the two go hand in hand, and public figures need to learn how to navigate both. “No actor has gotten fame and not gotten the flip side of it. I made the conscious choice that I wanted to be here, and the Universe is reciprocating. Now it’s on me how I handle [the fame]. And if the criticism is constructive, you can learn from it,” Vicky added.
On the work front, he will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited romantic drama Love & War. The film also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in leading roles. Currently under production, the project is scheduled to release in theatres in January 2027.
