Recently filmmaker Anil Sharma was seen at the mahurat launch of his upcoming film Genius. At the function when asked about Prabhas being a bigger star than Salman Khan, the Gadar producer had a rather interesting take on who is the bigger celebrity. Responding to the question while at the same time claiming that it was rather pointless to compare celebrities Sharma added, “Salman Khan has his own position within Bollywood, and Prabhas who featured in Baahubali and is Baahubali 2 has his own. It isn’t like Salman hasn’t given hits that are as big as Prabhas’ Baahubali, it all depends on time. Like for instance my film Gadar which released in 2001, at that time it had done business of Rs. 265 crores, in today’s times that is equivalent to business worth Rs. 5000 crores.”
If that wasn’t all, when reporters gathered at the mahurat launch also quizzed Anil Sharma if he thought Salman Khan’s soon to release film Tubelight would manage to break the records set by Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion, the filmmaker once again had a rather different take. “If the film is good it will do well, and the records will be broken. But if you ask, as per my personal opinion Baahubali 2 hasnt made any record as such. What is Rs. 1000-1500 cr? As I said in 2001 when the ticket price was Rs. 25, Gadar made Rs. 265 cr at the box office. So if you evaluate the same in today’s time and with today’s ticket prices the film did Rs. 5000 cr worth business, so I think that Baahubali 2 still has a long way to go”, said Sharma.
As for Anil Sharma’s film Genius, the film which will be directed by him will also mark the Bollywood debut of his son Utkarsh Sharma. Said to be an all-round entertainer, the film will feature action, drama, romance and comedy. Produced under the banner Anil Sharma Productions, the makers are yet to lock the female lead for the project.
