Katrina Kaif rocks the show in 2017; Parineeti Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez and Alia Bhatt keep the fire burning at the Box Office

2017 has seen quite some fluctuation when it comes to leading ladies finding a place amongst the top actress to generate maximum moolah at the Box Office. Unlike 2016, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor don't feature in the list since they didn't have a single release to their name. As for Deepika Padukone, she was missing in action from Bollywood, what with Padmaavat moving ahead.

Anushka Sharma and Shraddha Kapoor lost out on their standing since they didn't deliver a single hit film. The ones who stayed on though were Jacqueline Fernandez and Alia Bhatt whereas Katrina Kaif roared her way to the top. Parineeti Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz joined though with many other new entrants delivering a success each [Taapsee Pannu, Mahira Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam].

Katrina Kaif – Rs. 380 crore (expected) [Tiger Zinda Hai – Rs. 325.84 crore (expected), Jagga Jasoos – Rs. 54.16 crore], Average moolah per release: 190 crore (expected)
Katrina Kaif was good in Jagga Jasoos but unfortunately the film didn't work. However, she has struck back in a big way with Tiger Zinda Hai which is marching towards the Rs. 325.84 crore mark. Yet again, she is finding herself at the top of the game and 2018 should be special too with Thugs of Hindostan and the film with Shah Rukh Khan on the way.

Parineeti Chopra – Rs. 215.28 crore [Golmaal Again - 205.69 crore, Meri Pyari Bindu - 9.59 crore], Average moolah per release: 107.64 crore
Her comeback film Meri Pyari Bindu wasn't great shakes and just couldn't find any takers at the Box Office. However, when she featured in the multi-starrer Golmaal Again, floodgates opened all over again for Parineeti Chopra who scored a double century. Back in the game, Parineeti should have an eventful 2018 with Sundeep aur Pinky Faraar and Namastey England.

Bhumi Pednekar – Rs. 177.33 crore [Toilet - Ek Prem Katha – Rs. 134.22 crore, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan - 43.11 crore], Average moolah per release: Rs. 88.66 crore
Bhumi Pednekar is enjoying a 100% strike rate currently with Toilet - Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan turning out to be successful as well after Dum Laga Ke Haisha. She has played a middle class young woman in each of the three films so far and while that is allowing her to suit the character, one waits to see her in a different avtar in films to come.

Jacqueline Fernandez – Rs. 159.20 crore [Judwaa 2 - 138.61 crore, A Gentleman - 20.59 crore], Average moolah per release: Rs. 79.60 crore
Staying on to be consistent at the Box Office, Jacqueline Fernandez is doing well with her 'masala' big ticket outings. Her A Gentleman failed badly but she struck back well with Judwaa 2 and in the process added yet another Rs. 100 crore success to her name. She is fitting in well as a quintessential Bollywood leading lady.

Taapsee Pannu – Rs. 196.65 crore [Judwaa 2 – Rs. 138.61 crore, Naam Shabana – Rs, 36.76 crore, Running Shaadi – Rs. 0.98 crore, The Ghazi Attack – Rs. 20.3], Average moolah per release: Rs. 49.16 crore
If not for the long delayed release of Runnning Shaadi, the average score per film for Taapsee Pannu would have been much better. She had a huge commercial success in Judwaa 2 while as a solo leading lady (albeit with support from Akshay Kumar) she delivered well with Naam Shabana too. The actress is now busy with multiple assignments and is being seen as one of the more reliable heroine in the industry.

Mahira Khan – Rs. 137.51 crore [Raees - 137.51 crore], Average moolah per release: Rs. 137.51 crore
With her solitary release, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan managed a decent success in the form of Raees. Of course even she would have expected a much bigger grosser to her name since Raees featured Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. However, persistent delay in release followed by the fact that the film's content wasn't up to the mark restricted Raees from covering much distance.

Ileana D'Cruz – Rs. 133.69 crore [Baadshaho – 78.1 crore, Mubarakan – Rs. 55.59], Average moolah per release: Rs. 66.84 crore
Ileana D'Cruz featured in two releases and both turned out to be modest at the Box Office. Baadshaho stopped short of sprinting towards the Rs. 100 crore mark while the run of Mubarakan was unfortunately curtailed when in the real sense it was made for bigger bucks. Nonetheless, Ileana announced her presence loud and clear in the industry and did well yet again with a good act in both the films.

Yami Gautam – Rs. 113.77 crore [Kaabil – Rs. 103.84 crore, Sarkar 3 – Rs. 9.93 crore], Average moolah per release: 56.88 crore
If not for the disastrous performance of Sarkar 3, Yami Gautam could well have enjoyed a much better strike rate in 2017. She had a small but significant role in Kaabil and that allowed a success to be added against her name. Though she has enjoyed a few successes already, one now waits to see what does she pick up in 2018 so that she stays on to be in the reckoning.

Huma Qureshi – Rs. 119.64 crore [Jolly LLB 2 – Rs. 117 crore, Dobaara – 1.92 crore, Partition: 1947 – Rs. 0.72], Average moolah per release: Rs. 39.88 crore
Though Dobaara was a disaster at the Box Office, Jolly LLB 2 was a good Superhit. As a result, Huma Qureshi has now enjoyed a clean big bucks success in the industry after being around for a while. Since she is a good actress, it would be interesting to see her next in a role which is substantial and allows her to demonstrate a good performance.

Alia Bhatt – Rs. 116.68 crore [Badrinath Ki Dulhania - 116.68 crore], Average moolah per release: 116.68 crore
Alia Bhatt had just one film of hers release in 2017 and she delivered a good Superhit there. Badrinath Ki Dulhania had an author backed role for her and she did well with a performance that required her to be a quintessential leading lady with romance, emotions, song and dance being a part of it all. Audiences would love to see more of hers in 2018 and beyond.
