Vijay Sethupathi has been garnering ample love for his role as the lead antagonist in Jawan. And while the Shah Rukh Khan starrer has been making waves at the box office, another film of the Tamil actor has landed in trouble. It seems that Vijay Sethupathi, who was roped in to essay the role of Sri Lankan cricket legend Muralidharan, will not be playing the reel life cricketer in the movie. Opening about the casting hassle, the cricket legend himself talked about the issue stating that Vijay faced a lot of pressure and his family was even threatened.

In an interview with Zoom, Muralidharan revealed about how the actor came on board and even described how excited he was about doing the film. He said, “During my time at IPL, my director mentioned that Vijay Sethupathi was staying in the same hotel for a shoot. He offered to arrange a meeting, and although initially unsure, Vijay, being a fan of mine as a cricketer, agreed to meet. He allotted two hours five days later, post 8 p.m., for a narration of the script. After hearing it, he expressed genuine enthusiasm for the film, stating that he wouldn’t pass up such a unique opportunity and was eager to be part of the project. Subsequently, we sealed the deal with him, and the production house also came on board.”

Further he also mentioned the reason about the deal falling through as he added, “He was under tremendous pressure, and they were threatening Vijay’s family also.” However, Muralidharan also clarified that the film had no political agenda. “This movie is a sports movie, and it’s not related to anything political or anything else, but it’s just a true story of a man,” he concluded.
