India has been badly affected by the second wave of COVID-19. With a massive surge in the cases across the country, most states have called for a lockdown or strict restrictions in movement of people. Several states have also shut down cinema halls amid the surge. Many big budget films have once again postponed the release of their films.
Narappa, the official remake of the Tamil blockbuster Asuran has become the latest to join the list of films that have been postponed owing to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. The film was scheduled to hit the screens on May 14. But, Venkatesh Daggubati who will be seen reprising the role of Dhanush in the film has announced that the film will not release as per schedule.
"In lieu of the pandemic, #Narappa will not be releasing on May 14th. A new theatrical date will be announced once we overcome this unprecedented crisis. Stay safe," Daggubati tweeted.

He also shared a note explaining why they decided to postpone the release. "Narappa is a film that we have made with a lot of dedication and hard work and your love towards the film has been overwhelming. However, we are all going through a turbulent tie during this unprecedented global pandemic and hence, keeping in mind the health and safety of our beloved audience, the theatrical release of the film has been postponed,” the note read.
“We will bring Narappa to you just when the time is right...Until then, be safe, take care of yourself and stay strong. We will all get through this together," it further read.
