After over a decade of impactful performances in Hindi films and web projects, Sonakshi Sinha is set to make her Tollywood debut with the upcoming horror-drama Jatadhara. The film presents the actress in a strikingly different avatar as Dhanapisachini, a formidable and mysterious character at the centre of a battle between light and darkness.
Speaking about her experience and what drew her to the role, Sonakshi shared, “I’ve been waiting for a long time to do a character like this. It’s completely different from anything I’ve done before, and that’s what made it so exciting for me. I want to thank the makers for envisioning me in such a role and bringing it to life. Ever since my debut, people have told me I have an Indian face — some even called me Bihar ki beti. But my father always said, you’re Hindustan ki beti. He used to say, ‘If you play a character from any state you’ll blend right in’. So here I am, exploring a side of myself I’ve never shown before, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how audiences respond.”
Directed by Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan, Jatadhara is described as a supernatural action-drama rooted in mythology and folklore. The story revolves around a man who must confront the return of the demon goddess of greed, leading to a larger battle between good and evil.
The film stars Sudheer Babu in the lead alongside Sonakshi Sinha, with Shilpa Shirodkar and Divya Khosla Kumar in pivotal roles. Backed by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora, Jatadhara is being positioned as a pan-India release that merges mythological storytelling with modern cinematic scale.
The recently released trailer showcased Sonakshi in a commanding and intense look, which quickly caught the attention of viewers online. Many have noted the depth and intensity in her portrayal, marking a refreshing change for the actress as she steps into Telugu cinema.
Jatadhara is set to release in theatres nationwide on November 7, 2025, promising an atmospheric and gripping cinematic experience.
