Veteran actors Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth are set to reunite after 38 years in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, their first collaboration since the 1986 film Mr Bharath. Addressing long-standing rumours of a fallout, Sathyaraj clarified in an interview with Indiaglitz that he turned down roles in Rajinikanth's films Sivaji (2007) and Enthiran (2010) because he wasn’t satisfied with the roles offered, not due to any personal issues. He explained, “After I became a hero, I was approached for two Rajinikanth films. The first one was Sivaji; the other was Enthiran. I was approached to play Danny Denzongpa’s role. I wasn’t satisfied with both roles. Otherwise, what problems do we have?”

In the 1990s, rumours of a feud between the two actors were fuelled by political comments made by Sathyaraj, which Rajinikanth's fans believed were targeted at their idol. During the early 2000s, amid the Hogenakkal Falls water dispute, Sathyaraj's comments were again perceived as directed at Rajinikanth. Despite this, Sathyaraj never publicly spoke ill of Rajinikanth, even complimenting his superstar charisma. By 2013, Sathyaraj had become less vocal on Tamilian nationalism, further dispelling notions of an ongoing feud.

Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth will appear together in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, with Sathyaraj confirming his involvement during the promotions of Malai Pidikatha Manithan. While details about his role remain under wraps, the reunion is highly anticipated. Coolie marks Rajinikanth's 171st film, with early teasers hinting at a plot involving gold smuggling. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the film's music.

In addition to Coolie, Sathyaraj is rumoured to be part of AR Murugadoss' Sikander, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna. He is also set to appear in Vasanth Ravi’s Weapon, releasing on June 7, further showcasing his versatile acting prowess.
