Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has reiterated his criticism of actor Sivaji following the latter’s controversial remarks about women and their clothing. Sivaji had faced widespread backlash online after making misogynistic comments at the pre-release event of Dhandoraa earlier this week. Days after calling him “uncouth,” Varma addressed the issue again with a fresh post on social media.

Ram Gopal Varma referred to the recently held pre-release event of Prabhas’ upcoming film The Raja Saab, noting that none of the female actors present appeared affected by Sivaji’s comments. He pointed out that Niddhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar chose to dress as they wished, without responding to moral policing.
Taking to his X account, Varma shared a photo of Prabhas clicking a selfie with the three actors and wrote, “All 3 heroines of #Prabhas @AgerwaLNidhhi @MalavikaM_ @riddhiculousart didn’t care about moral barkings of Shivaji and his vitriolic batch at #RajaSaab event and wore exactly what they want to wear. Hats off to you 3 HEROES for giving tight face slap to those VILLAINS.”
At the event, Malavika Mohanan wore a shimmery black lehenga, Riddhi Kumar opted for a white saree, while Niddhi Agerwal was seen in a grey saree.
What did Sivaji say?
The controversy began after Sivaji made derogatory and misogynistic remarks about women who, according to him, did not dress modestly. During his speech, he used offensive terms such as ‘daridrapu m***a’ (wretched woman) and referred to women’s body parts as ‘saamaan’ (things/assets). He also suggested that people would perceive a woman as “wretched” based on how she dressed.
Following the backlash, Sivaji took to his X account and acknowledged that he had used two “unparliamentary” words during his speech, stating that it happened inadvertently. He apologised for the remarks.
A few days earlier, Ram Gopal Varma had already criticised Sivaji in a separate post, writing,
“I don’t know that fellows full name and hence I am commenting here… Hey Shivaji whatever you are, if the women in your home are willing to bear a uncouth dirty guy like you, you are welcome to moral police them ..With regard to the other women in society or film industry or wherever, you can put your opinions in where they belong.”
The exchange continues to spark discussion online, with many voices speaking out against misogyny and moral policing in public forums and the film industry.
