On Monday, Actor Vijay’s father informed a Chennai court that the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a political organisation founded by him and named after his son, has been dissolved. An affidavit was submitted to the Chennai City Civil Court. Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekar said that it is submitted to the Court that a General Body meeting was convened on 28-02-2021 at Chennai after giving prior notice to all members of the ‘Vijay Makkal Iyakkam’. In the General Body meeting, a resolution has been taken that Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been dissolved/wound-up with immediate effect.

South film star Vijay has previously lodged a case against his parents and several other office bearers of the Iyakkam and sought a restraint against the political outfit from using his name to organize meetings or draw members. The decision to dissolve the organization is said to be taken upon the actor’s move. SA Chandrasekar told the court that the ten respondents in the case who were also office bearers of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam have handed in their resignation letters.

He stated that Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been dissolved and is not in existence now. Though they are no longer members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, but they all continue as general fans of film actor Vijay.

The organization was founded by SA Chandreshakar in June 2020, who registered it with the Election Commission of India. At the time, Vijay had denied any connection to the party and clarified that it was registered by his father. The actor had issued a statement saying that fans don’t have to be associated or work for the party and added that no one should use his name or pictures for political agenda.

The case has been adjourned to October 29.
