The wait is finally over for fans of Malayalam cinema. L2: Empuraan, the high-octane sequel to Lucifer, will be streaming exclusively on JioHotstar from April 24. The announcement was made by none other than Mohanlal himself, who reprises his iconic role in the second instalment of the trilogy.

JioHotstar too confirmed the premiere date through their official handle, signalling a massive digital release for one of the year’s most talked-about Malayalam films.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, L2: Empuraan is a 2025 Indian Malayalam-language action thriller. The film is jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah, and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions, and Sree Gokulam Movies. It continues the saga set up in Lucifer (2019), a political action drama that saw Mohanlal play the enigmatic and powerful character of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi-Ab'ram.

The sequel expands its narrative universe, bringing in a larger canvas and a stellar ensemble cast that includes Prithviraj Sukumaran in an extended role along with Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn (of Game of Thrones fame), Andrea Tivadar, among others along with older cast that includes Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran. Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Kishore also are a part of this ensemble. With a mix of political intrigue, international conspiracies, and intense action sequences, L2: Empuraan promises to take the story forward in an even more gripping direction.

The release on JioHotstar marks a significant digital moment for the Malayalam film industry, positioning the film for a Pan-India and international audience.
