Actress Rashmika Mandanna recently found herself in the midst of a cybercrime controversy when an AI-generated deepfake video bearing her likeness went viral on social media. This unsettling incident drew responses from various quarters, with both Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika herself calling for legal action.
Joining the voices in support of Rashmika was south actress Keerthu Suresh. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Keerthy Suresh addressed the issue with a thoughtful post, expressing her deep concern. She wrote, “The deep-fake video that's going around is scary. I really wish the person who had done this could have rather used that time to do something productive and not put the people involved, into misery. I don't understand if technology for us today is a boon or a bane. Let's use this platform widely to only spread love, positivity, awareness, and information and not nonsense. God save mankind.”

On November 6, Rashmika Mandanna bravely broke her silence regarding the deepfake video that affected her. In her statement, she expressed her distress and elaborated on the grave issue of identity theft. She shared, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
Highlighting the need for collective efforts, she continued, “Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”
On the professional front, Rashmika Mandanna is gearing up for her upcoming film, Animal, in which she shares the screen with Ranbir Kapoor. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film boasts a stellar cast that includes Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Animal is scheduled to hit the theatres on December 1, promising to be a significant cinematic offering.
