Kannada filmmaker SK Bhagwan passes away at 89 : Bollywood News

Popular Kannada filmmaker Srinivasa Krishna Iyengar Bhagwan, well-known as S K Bhagwan, passed away on Monday morning at a hospital in Bengaluru due to age-related ailments. Earlier, in December 2022, he was admitted to a hospital as he is suffering from age-related issues. He was 89. Reacting to the sad news, the CM of Karnataka, Basavaraj S Bommai, shared a tweet and paid a tribute to the late director.

“Renowned director of the Kannada film industry Shri S. K. I was very saddened to hear the news of Bhagavan's death. I pray for his soul. I pray that God gives strength to his family to bear this pain,” he tweeted along with a photo of the late filmmaker. In a following tweet, he added, “Dorai-Bhagavan duo has given many tasteful films to Kannada cinema. Along with his friend Dorai Raj, he directed 55 films including 'Kasthuri Niwas', 'Eradu Soyam', 'Bayalu Dari', 'Giri Kanye', 'Hosa Lekuk' starring Rajkumar. Om Shantih.”

A native of Bengaluru, SK entered the film industry in 1956 as an assistant to Kanagal Prabhakara Shastry. Later, along with Dorairaj, he directed over 55 films in Kannada, most of which starred Rajkumar and were Blockbuster hits.

Besides Rajkumar, he has also worked with Uday Kumar, Narasimha Raju, Lakshmi, Aarti, Jayanthi, Rajesh, Kalpana, Manjula, Ananth Nag, Shankar Nag, B. Saroja Devi, Dr Vishnuvardhan, Malashree, Ambareesh, and Puneeth Rajkumar, among others. In 2017, he was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for his contribution to art and cinema. His last film, his 50th alone, was released in 2019, titled Aduva Gombe.
