Dulquer Salmaan banned by Kerala theatre association after he skips the theatrical release of Salute : Bollywood News

Dulquer Salmaan is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Salute. The film which marks Diana Penty’s debut in Malayalam will be released directly on Sony LIV app. However, the film was initially supposed to hit the theatres first in January. But after the delay caused by the third wave of COVID-19, the makers decided to release the film on OTT despite theaters resuming with full capacity in several states. However, Dulquer Salmaan's decision to skip theatrical release did not sit well with Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) who have decided to ban his films.

The decision by FEUOK to not cooperate with Dulquer Salmaan's future movies came after the actor opted to skip theatrical release for his home production. Salute is backed by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and is directed by Rosshan Andrrews. The film which sees Dulquer essay the role of a cop was supposed to hit the big screens on January 15 but was delayed by the pandemic. Reportedly, the association has claimed that the production house had a release agreement in place with the association. They claimed that the decision to release the film on OTT was made without any discussion with the theatre association in Kerala.

FEUOK has decided to not co-operate with movies that star Dulquer Salmaan and films that are produced by him. The actor is yet to react to this decision taken by FEUOK.

Salute will be released on Sony LIV on March 18. The film has been written by Bobby and Sanjay. The film also stars Manoj K Jayan, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Saikumar, Binu Pappu, Deepak Parambol, and Saniya Iyappan.

Dulquer's film Kurup was among the first film to release in theatres after the second wave of the pandemic. The film helped revive the business of theatres to a large extent. His recent Tamil film Hey Sinamika was also released in theatres.
