The Tamil superstar opens up about his journey, health battles and what truly matters to him in an introspective interview.

In a rare and candid interview with India Today, Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar opened up about his journey into acting, his outlook on life, and the possibility of retirement. Known for being intensely private and steering clear of the public spotlight beyond his films, Ajith’s reflections offered fans a deeper glimpse into the man behind the stardom.

“You never know! It’s not about me planning when to retire, I could be forced into retirement. I don’t want to take anything for granted,” Ajith said, when asked about his future in films. Rather than focusing on fame or career milestones, the actor emphasized the value of simply being alive. “People complain about life. To wake up and feel alive itself is a blessing. I am not being philosophical here. I have been through surgeries and injuries. I have friends and family who are cancer survivors. We understand how valuable life is – just to be alive. I want to make use of every second of my life – want to make the most of it.”

For Ajith, purpose and presence seem to outweigh professional ambition. He continued, “When my time comes, I want my maker to think, ‘I gave this soul a life and he sucked the juice of it, used every second of it in a positive way.’ That’s how I want to live life, passionately, and not waste time at all.”

Interestingly, Ajith also shared that acting was never a part of his plan. “Acting was never on my radar. I am an accidental actor. After school, I started working in an auto manufacturing company for about six months. I was 18 when I started racing motorcycles… Then, before I started realising, I started doing print ads and TV commercials,” he recalled.

Ajith's grounded perspective on life stands in contrast to the often glamorous and high-pressure world of cinema. His comments reflect a man who values meaning over momentum, and health and passion over success metrics. As fans await his next film and track his career choices closely, it is clear that for Ajith Kumar, living fully—both on-screen and off—is the only way forward.
