Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth recently opened up about the bittersweet impact of the viral song ‘Why This Kolaveri Di?’ on her 2012 directorial debut, 3. The film, starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan, gained significant attention due to the song's immense popularity, but Aishwarya revealed in an interview with Rednool that it also unintentionally overshadowed the film's core narrative.

‘Kolaveri Di,’ composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Dhanush, became a global phenomenon in 2011, garnering millions of views and propelling both artists to new heights. However, Aishwarya admitted, "We weren't prepared... ‘Kolaveri Di’ just happened in our lives. It put pressure on the film. More than a surprise, it was a shock for me."

She further elaborated, "I was trying to tell a different story, but the song swallowed and overshadowed the film. It was very difficult for me. It was a serious film, and not many spoke about it when it was released." While acknowledging the song's success and its positive impact on individual careers, Aishwarya expressed, "The song did not help the movie. I am happy if it had helped anyone's individual career."

Aishwarya recently returned to directing with "Lal Salaam," a sports drama starring her father, Rajinikanth, alongside Vishnu Vishal and Vikrant. The film received mixed reviews but garnered praise for its music by A.R. Rahman and the special cameo by legendary cricketer Kapil Dev.
