Kantara and KGF Chapter 2 together won four awards whereas Ponniyin Selvan 1 walked away with four victories too.

On August 16, the National Media Centre in New Delhi announced the winners of this year’s, that is, of the 70th National Film Awards which saw many big names emerging victorious. Among the plethora of South films which have entertained us in the past couple of years, Kannada films like Kantara, KGF Chapter 2, Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 1, and Malayalam film Aattam were among the few that shined at the award function.

Kantara walked away with two awards – namely for Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Actor in a Leading Role with the latter being presented to Rishab Shetty. Meanwhile, production house Hombale Films, which has not only produced this Kannada fantasy drama but also the action entertainer KGF Chapter 2, celebrated the wins of both films. The Yash starrer too won two awards in the Best Kannada Film and Best Action Direction which was presented to Anbariv at the 70th National Film Awards.

Meanwhile, in the Tamil category, the Mani Ratnam magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 1 emerged victorious in multiple categories like Best Tamil Film, A. R. Rahman for Best Music Direction, Anand Krishnamoorthi for Best Sound Design, and Ravi Varman for Best Cinematography. Apart from this, the Dhanush starrer Thiruchitrabalam also received two awards which were presented to Nitya Menen for Best Actress, that she shared with Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film Kutch Express and Jani Master – Satish Krishnan for Best Choreography.

Speaking of Malayalam Cinema, it was Aattam which shined with three awards in Best Feature Film, Best Editing, Best Screenplay (Anand Ekarshi) categories. Another film Saudi Vellaka bagged Best Malayalam Film and Best Playback Singing Female (Bombay Jayshree) awards. In Telugu, Karthikeya 2 walked away with the Best Telugu film award.
