Walt Disney Studios president drops hint about Johnny Depp's return to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise; says, “We have a really good, exciting story”

Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president Sean Bailey has addressed the persistent speculation surrounding the return of Johnny Depp in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film. While reports of a sixth film and a spinoff featuring Margot Robbie emerged in 2020, the spinoff project was eventually shelved. The question remains whether Depp will reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

In an interview with the New York Times, Bailey hinted at the story for the upcoming film, expressing enthusiasm for creating a narrative that pays homage to the previous movies while introducing fresh elements. He stated, "We think we have a really good, exciting story that honours the films that have come before and also has something new to stay." However, Bailey remained noncommittal regarding Depp's involvement.

Although no definitive statement has been made by Walt Disney Studios, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has expressed his desire to see Depp return. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer emphasized that personal matters should not overshadow an actor's talent and friendship.

Bruckheimer stated, "You'd have to ask [Disney]. I can't answer that question. I really don't know. I would love to have him in the movie. He's a friend, a terrific actor, and it's unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do."

Speaking of Depp’s professional front, he recently announced the cast for his new movie called Modi. It will mark his return as a director after 25 years.
