After the triumphant return of Top Gun with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, the franchise gears up for a third installment. Tom Cruise, the iconic Maverick, remains at the forefront, as the producers intricately weave a script for Top Gun 3. The sequel, arriving two decades after its predecessor, introduced a fresh squadron of Air Force officers, injecting new life into the classic narrative. Not only that, Maverick director Joe Kosinski is set to return as director.

According to the news publication Puck, Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is penning the script for the third installment. The plan is to make Tom Cruise return along with the new stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Kosinski is also set to return as the director of the third installment.

Interestingly, this news comes a day after Tom Cruise signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to star and produce movies for the studio. It seems like there were tensions between Cruise and Paramount Pictures.

Top Gun: Maverick follows Pete’s journey as a test pilot and flight instructor, who has been assigned to train a group of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission. Initially reluctant to take up the job, Maverick agrees, at the behest of his old colleague and friend Ice. But amidst a life-threatening mission, Maverick is forced to confront the ghosts from his past, when he encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.

In India, the film had collected Rs. 34.50 crore. It earned $1.5 billion globally. Steven Spielberg credited Tom Cruise for reviving theatrical business post-COVID-19 with Top Gun: Maverick.
