Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell to star in untitled R-rated romantic comedy at Sony

A new R-rated rom-com story from Will Gluck is under works at Sony with Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell set to headline the feature. According to Deadline, while the plot is being kept under wraps, the project is based on Ilana Wolpert’s script, which Gluck is rewriting. The untitled film is said to be an R-rated project.

Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Gluck are attached as producers alongside the Euphoria actress who is executive producing for Fifty-Fifty Films. Natalie Sellers and Alyssa Altman are also attached as executive producers for RK Films.

With the untitled romantic comedy film currently in its early stages of development, no official release date has been set yet. The project marks Sweeney’s latest collaboration with Sony after recently wrapping Marvel’s Madame Web, joining Barbarella remake as the lead and an exec producer, and The Registration.

Meanwhile, director Will Gluck is diving back into the world of romantic comedies bringing together the Two-time Emmy Award-nominated actress with Top Gun: Maverick star. Gluck is best known for his comedies like Easy A and Friends With Benefits.

The filmmaker is currently working on action-comedy End of the World and Just Dance for Ubisoft. Gluck is also adapting Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen on the TV side. He will direct and produce the project. Moreover, Powell, who debuted with Netflix rom-com Set It Up, is also returning to the genre.

The Top Gun: Maverick star also has sci-fi action thriller Deputy X in his project pool and has signed on to the buddy comedy Foreign Relations, starring alongside Nick Jonas.
