Stephen "tWitch" Boss, the famous DJ from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has died by suicide at the age of 40, as reported by his wife Allison Holker Boss. "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us," Boss' wife, Allison confirmed in a statement, according to People. "Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans."

"To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt," she continued. "I am certain there won't be a day that goes by that we won't honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you," she concluded.

Boss was known for his role as the house DJ of The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2014. He joined the series as a guest DJ and eventually became a permanent fixture on the talk show until it ended in 2022. Following the news of the unexpected and tragic death, multiple artists and celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres, paid tribute to the late dancer and DJ.

“I’m heartbroken,” DeGeneres wrote in a statement posted on Twitter. “tWitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.”

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Television Group, the studio behind the Ellen show, also issued a statement, “We are shocked and heartbroken by the tragic news of the passing of Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss. tWitch was a multi-faceted talent and integral part of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and our Warner Bros. Television Group family. He had the ability to bring communities of people together each day to share in joy and laughter.”

“Most importantly, he was a beloved friend, husband, and father,” the studio added. “We extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family, friends, and fans.” Fellow musician and friend Questlove also took to Instagram to honor the late DJ, writing a lengthy note. “I have no words man. May his family find resolution in this dark time. May we all find peace of mind in our everyday lives,” he wrote.

Questlove continued, “Everyday is a winding road and you just may never know who is on the edge. A lot of us can’t process emotions & how to deal with it. I’ll admit yesterday was rotten and every minuscule occurrence of a Murphy’s Law nature sent me spiraling. Take time out for yourselves if you feel like you’re on the edge (I know most of us are confused when it comes to darker emotions like sadness and anger — both healthy to express but becomes problematic when your solution is to figure out how to get rid of the feelings that don’t feel good to you.”

He ended his message writing, "Take time out for yourselves & sit in silence people. Time literally heals wounds. Rest In Melody Twitch."

Yvette Nicole Brown also took to Twitter, writing, “RIP Twitch, and we’re all so sorry for you and your kids, [Allison Holker]. So very sorry for this profound loss.” Paul Feig also paid tribute to the late DJ writing, "Absolutely devastated by this news. Stephen was such a wonderful loving soul, filled with joy and positive energy. I worked with him several times and he was nothing but amazing. I don’t know what demons he was dealing with but my heart goes out to Alison."

As shared by Entertainment Weekly, So You Think You Can Dance creator and host, Nigel Lythgoe also shared a statement Wednesday. "I am heartbroken and devastated at the moment,” Lythgoe, who also hosted Twitch and Holker's wedding at his vineyard, wrote. "I’m at a loss to understand how someone as loved and as inspirational to so many people as Stephen was, can feel they are in such a dark place that they have no other choice but to end their life.”

He continued, “With Twitch that is unimaginable to me. What were the demons that he kept to himself? He always had that broad smile and a joy of life. Everyone who met him loved him. Did he really have no one to talk with that could help him to unload some of his issues? How sad, how very sad. Mental health is a real issue that is often hidden from us. The dance community will be reeling today but my deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, Allison and their children.”

"It’s important to recognize that mental health is a real problem and sometimes goes unnoticed in our loved ones. As we go into this happy time of the year for so many of us we must recognize that stress and dark emotions appear to be heightened in others." In another statement, Lythgoe continued to share his admiration for the dancer and called him an "inspiration."

"Twitch was a man who fought his way through adversity,” Lythgoe added. “He became an inspiration for so many people who watched his journey. He was a magnificent example of overcoming adversity. Unfortunately one of the problems in our industry is keeping a happy smiling face for the public whatever our true feelings are. I can’t imagine what extraordinary demons drove him into feeling that the only option he had was to end his life. My thoughts are now with his wife, Allison and his children."

Other fellow artists like Loni Love, Emmanuel Acho, DJ Pauly D and Tommy Chong also left a hearty note mourning the death of the beloved DJ.
