SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups halts activities to undergo knee surgery; Seungkwan to return from hiatus

In the latest development, K-pop supergroup SEVENTEEN member S.Coups (Choi Seung Cheol) is halting his upcoming activities as he will undergo knee surgery for torn ACL. The news was shared by his agency Pledis Entertainment. He injured himself during a shooting schedule.

In a statement released on August 17, it read, “We would like to inform you about SEVENTEEN member S.Coups’s current health status and his future activities. On August 10, S.Coups sustained an injury to his left knee as he was landing while playing a ball game for content filming. He was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent a comprehensive medical examination including an MRI scan. During the examination, a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was identified in the left knee. The artist is receiving necessary medical treatment prior to the surgery as recommended by medical staff and will undergo surgery as soon as possible. We will provide updates on the progression of his treatment and rehabilitation schedule at a later time.”

It further read that the rapper-producer-songwriter will halt his upcoming work schedules to recover from his injury. “S.Coups will be unable to participate in the majority of the scheduled activities for the time being and will focus on his recovery through surgery and rehabilitation. We would like to extend our deepest apology to his fans for any distress or worry this may have caused. The artist is highly determined to attend all of the group’s scheduled activities. However, his participation will be adjusted depending on the circumstances, placing his recovery as the top priority as per the recommendation of the medical staff. We will do our best to aid in S.Coups’s treatment and recovery so that he can return in good health to his fans as quickly as possible.”

In another update on Wednesday, the agency revealed that Seungkwan will resume his activities after taking a break for a few months for health concerns. He did not participate in the group’s recent “FOLLOW” concert in Seoul. Seungkwan will now join the group’s upcoming comeback in October.

“Seungkwan is planning to join the rest of SEVENTEEN for their October comeback and new album,” stated the agency. “Seungkwan is currently focusing entirely on his recovery,” they continued. “We are in the process of discussing the time of his return with the artist himself. We predict that he will return by September at the latest and be able to meet his fans again.”

In May 2023, SEVENTEEN reached a career-high on the Billboard charts with their 10th Mini Album FML. The group hit No. 1 on the Artist 100 while FML debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top Album Sales and World Albums charts, making it the fourth largest sales week of 2023 in the U.S.
