Ron Weasley aka Rupert Grint explains how Harry Potter had become ‘suffocating’; says, “If we continued, it could’ve gone downhill”

Among the many stars who became synonymous with the Harry Potter franchise, Rupert Grint was one of them. After playing Ron Weasley onscreen for a decade, Grint opened up on how he looked at his career ahead and what led him to take a ‘break to reflect’ about his future in the entertainment industry. Talking about what Harry Potter meant to him, Rupert also recalled how ‘suffocating’ the experience had become as he continued to essay the character of Ron.

In a recent interview with American woman’s magazine Bustle, Rupert Grint reminisced about his Harry Potter days and said, “In the movies ('Harry Potter'), we merged into one. By the end of it, I was playing myself. The lines were blurred.” He continued further, explaining the reason behind taking a break in order to think about his future in acting career. “'Potter' was so full on — (filming) all year, then we’d promote the rest of the time. It was quite suffocating. I wanted a break, to reflect on everything... It was an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we finished at the right time. If we continued, it could’ve gone downhill,” he added.

In the same breath, Grint also admitted how Ron has become his ‘second name’. “I answer to it, if someone calls me Ron,” he mentioned in the interview.

However, his transition from being an emotional Ron who values relationships like friendship and love to a man who explores darker characters, subjects, and themes as he progressed in his career, have left many surprised. “I’m quite dark. It’s definitely part of my personality, especially in humor,” Grint maintained.

Rupert Grint is currently a part of the M Night Shyamalan’s American psychological thriller series Servant which also features Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, and Nell Tiger Free in lead roles. Grint essays the character of Julian Pearce, the alcoholic brother of leading lady Lauren’s character Dorothy Turner.
