Producer Erica Lee teases new spin-off films in John Wick universe in development at Lionsgate

Producer Erica Lee has revealed that another secret new film is now in the works to expand the John Wick universe following John Wick: Chapter 4’s success. The film reportedly had a franchise-best opening weekend!

“There is another film that we're developing that I think we'll be announcing in the next, say, month or two,” producer Lee told Collider. “Then, I'm hopeful there's a Ballerina 2, and John Wick 5, and lots of other things. But we're developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.”

As the outlet notes, John Wick: Chapter 4 is supposedly retiring Keanu Reeves’ beloved assassin for good. He is set to appear as the assassin at least one more time in the upcoming Ana de Armas-led spinoff, Ballerina. Reddick, Anjelica Huston, and McShane are all expected to make cameos in the upcoming spin-off.

Although Reeves' character as the titular assassin is the focus in the John Wick movies, the franchise has also introduced numerous supporting characters in its latest installment. This implies that the new spin-off projects could potentially center around these newly introduced characters. Meanwhile director Stahelski recently said that he and Reeves wanted to give the franchise “a rest” after Chapter 4.

Lionsgate also released a statement stating that they “aren't ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise” and that there are “a lot of different things that we can do.” Another spin-off The Continental, a prequel mini-series that follows a young Winston and Charon , is also set for a September release.

John Wick 4 is currently playing in theaters.
