Obsession is gearing up for its theatrical release later this month, and actor Inde Navarrette has now opened up about playing one of the film’s most emotionally intense characters. Directed by Curry Barker, the psychological horror thriller presents a dark twist on the classic “be careful what you wish for” concept.
Presented by Universal Pictures India and distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, the film follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, who secretly harbours feelings for his best friend Nikki. In a desperate attempt to make her fall in love with him, he turns to a mysterious “One Wish Willow,” believed to grant a single wish.
However, what initially appears to be a dream come true soon spirals into something disturbing. Nikki’s affection transforms into an increasingly dangerous obsession, creating an unsettling atmosphere where love and control begin to blur.
Speaking about her experience of portraying Nikki, Inde Navarrette revealed that she instantly connected with the character when she first read the script. “She is the first character that I understood completely. It was such a euphoric feeling being that confident in knowing who your character is."
Director Curry Barker also praised Navarrette’s performance and recalled how quickly she settled into the role during filming. “On the first day of shooting, Inde's first scene was when Nikki freaks out after they kiss, and the first take is what you see in the movie." He further added, “When we saw it that first day, we knew we had the perfect actor for the role."
The film aims to explore themes of emotional fixation, desire and the consequences of losing control. Through its horror-driven narrative, Obsession examines how unchecked longing can slowly consume both individuals and relationships.
The movie has already started attracting attention for its psychological themes and emotionally charged performances, particularly from its lead cast. With Curry Barker bringing his own contemporary approach to the horror genre, the film is expected to offer a mix of suspense, emotional tension and unsettling storytelling.
Obsession is scheduled to release in cinemas on May 29.
