Netflix has denied reports that contestants sustained serious injuries while filming in freezing cold conditions on set of the Squid Game competition reality series. According to Entertainment Weekly, the streaming giant along with co-producing companies Studio Lambert and The Garden said the claims of injury put forth by The Sun are false. "While it was very cold on set — and participants were prepared for that — any claims of serious injury are untrue." On Tuesday, the British tabloid had reported that the show’s contestants suffered as weather conditions plunged below zero.

One of them was reported to have "stretchered off" while others suffered frostbite. The outlet further shares, citing a source, that a game of Red Light, Green Light, filmed at a former air force base in England, led to tears. The nature of the injuries wasn't specified.

Squid Game: The Challenge is a reality TV version of Squid Game, Netflix’s original survival thriller from South Korea. The new competition series has 456 players from around the world, competing for the prize money of $4.65 million is being filmed in the U.K. this time.

Brandon Riegg, Netflix's VP of unscripted and documentary series, previously shared an insight on what fans can expect from the upcoming reality show. "Squid Game took the world by storm with director Hwang [Dong-Hyuk]'s captivating story and iconic imagery," said Riegg.

"We're grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” he added. “Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end."

Meanwhile, the global hit series was also renewed for a second season at Netflix. The new season was confirmed last year alongside the introduction of a new deadly character: Cheol Su, boyfriend of Young Hee, the motion-sensing animatronic doll with black hair in low short pigtails.
