Mark Ruffalo reveals his FIRST reaction when he read the script of Mickey 17; says, “I wasn’t sure I was the right fit"

From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, Mickey 17. The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living. Playing the lead antagonist in the film is Mark Ruffalo as Kennith Marshall - a narcissist and a failed politician. Talking about reading the script for the first time and his reaction, Ruffalo said, "When I first read the script, it was both exciting and totally intimidating. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I was the right fit - I had never played a character like this before. When I met Director Bong, I said, “I don’t know if I’m the right person for this…” And he replied, “What are you talking about? I wrote it with your voice in my head.” I was shocked—and so honored. I thought the script was fantastic. The film tackles big themes - colonialism, classism, dehumanization, superiority, the blurring of church and state - but in a sharp, satirical way, like Dr. Strangelove or Network. It’s funny, thought-provoking, and leaves you with something to chew on."

The film is produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, Bong Joon Ho and Dooho Choi as it is based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. Warner Bros. Pictures presents A Plan B Entertainment Production, An Offscreen Production / A Kate Street Picture Company Production, A Film By Bong Joon Ho: “Mickey 17.” The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, and will release in cinemas and IMAX in India on March 7, 2025.
