Speculations also rose Lee was allegedly involved in the casting process for season 2 when former BIGBANG member T.O.P name was announced as one of the cast members. His agency responded to the reports, as reported by Soompi, which read, “We would like to express our position regarding the reports about actor Lee Jung Jae’s involvement in the casting of Squid Game 2. Some of the reports that claim actor Lee Jung Jae was involved in the casting of Squid Game 2 are not true. The casting of a project is the authority of the director and the production company. In particular, actor Lee Jung Jae understands more than anyone that due to the great interest in Squid Game 2, many actors work hard to make an appearance, and [the cast members] are decided through audition. Accordingly, we would like to reiterate that it is not true that actor Lee Jung Jae was involved in the casting of Squid Game 2.”
It was already confirmed that actors Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will reprise their roles of Gi Hun and Front Man, respectively. It was also hinted that Gong Yoo may return as “the man in the suit with ddakji”. At the event, it was confirmed Wi Ha Jun will be returning to the show. An ensemble is joining the second season including Im Siwan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Guen.
