King The Land and Doctor Cha K-Dramas set for Turkish remakes as MF Yapım acquires rights

The popularity of Korean dramas continues its global reign. In a testament to their widespread appeal, two standout Korean shows from 2023 are set for remakes on Turkish television. Turkish production company MF Yapım has acquired the rights to adapt popular Korean dramas of 2023, King The Land and Doctor Cha. Turkish dramas have transcended borders, captivating international audiences much like the widespread popularity of Korean dramas. This reflects the global appeal of Korean content and the increasing trend of cross-cultural adaptations. The casting for King The Land is underway with plans to take the project on TV screens by summer. Whereas Doctor Cha's remake has already gone into production.

Starring 2 PM’s Lee Junho and Girls’ Generation’s Im YoonA, King The Land is an adorable yet predictable romance between a hotel conglomerate Gu Won, who is at war with his step-sister over inheritance and his employee Cheon Sa Rang, a hotelier who always has a smile on her face till she meets Gu Won. Korean dramas were missing the essence of cliché romantic comedies of the late 2010s and this came at the right time giving the mush feels and soft romance.

Meanwhile, Doctor Cha is a drama detailing the life of a woman who became a medical intern at a later stage in her life. A medical graduate turned housewife, she longs to reclaim her identity in the medical realm. Meanwhile, her seemingly perfect doctor husband skillfully juggles a successful career and a hidden life of infidelity. The story unfolds with nuances of ambition, sacrifice, and betrayal, portraying the complexity of relationships and the pursuit of personal fulfilment in the face of societal expectations. Written by Jung Yeo Rang and directed by Kim Dae Jin and Kim Jung Wook, the series was headlined by Uhm Jung Hwa, along with Kim Byung Chul, Myung Se Bin, and Min Woo Hyuk.

Interestingly, Doctor Cha's remake shoot has already begun. The show, titled Bahar in local language, will star Demet Evgar, Buğra Gülsoy, Mehmet Yılmaz Ak along with Hatice Aslan, Ecem Özkaya, Elit Andaç Çam, Demirhan Demircioğlu, Nil Sude Albayrak, Sena Kalıp, Alisa Sezen Sever and Füsun Demirel in pivotal roles. The project went on floors in January 2024.
